Sotheby’s offered more than 200 new works by the artist Damien Hirst. The artist took his work straight to auction, cutting out gallery dealers. The Golden Calf with horns and hooves of 18 carat gold, sold for 18.5 million. Hirst raised $198 million, the total for the two-day sale was a record for an auction of works by a single artist.
Damien Hirst is always a big surprise to me. Can’t say I’m a fan of his work… at all.
