Stimulus check, direct deposit and through the mail?

Say you got your stimulus check direct deposited and then a few weeks later another stimulus check is mailed to you. Who would cash it or mail it back? If you cashed it would you get caught? What are the odds? Let me know your opinions.

There are no odds. All check numbers are recorded against SSNs, so a good chance is, if you cash it, you’ll have to send it back once they discover the mistake (or not, whatever the scenario may be).
Either way, call them and find out if you were possibly supposed to get a bigger refund, so they sent you two checks instead.
Good luck.
Call the IRS, they will determine that you received 2 payments sooner or later. If you were supposed to receive 2 payments, have the person that spoke to you give you confirmation in writing. If this was incorrect, it is better to take care of it now. If you don’t, I bet that you will be charged with interest and penalties for the extra payment if this is not resolved soon.
You should be prepared to return one of the payments though.
Were both payments for the same amount?
call the IRS tell them what happened. It could be yours but it may be a mistake. If you cash them both and one was sent by accident you will have to repay it. and with interest and it will be high.
