Does anyone know anything about “entry level marketing” jobs?

I’ve been looking for a job and I keep running across “sports marketing” and “event marketing” firms that are offering “entry level management opportunities.” I’m always skeptical of “marketing” jobs in general because a lot of times they are either outright scams or just want you to stand on the corner in a chicken suit, so I started researching. What I found was companies like this all over the country. A lot of them have exactly the same webpage with just the name of the company changed. They are obviously affiliated, but I cannot find any evidence of a parent company. They all claim to be independent growing businesses. I also find it strange that the only “marketing” that they seem to be doing is for finding new employees and not actually searching for new clients. Does anyone know anything about these companies? Is it some kind of pyramid scheme? Here’s an example of what I mean… http://www.cookemarketing.com/

I currently relocated to Michigan and I’m seeking for employment in the marketing field. If your company is hiring or know of a company that is hiring, please e-mail me. I would really appreciate your help.

Would you prefer a Marketing person with 17 years of experience and no degree or a degree and little experienc

I have been stuck! I have 17 years of marketing, public relations, sales, and special event planning experience yet never had the opportunity to get my degree. I have been searching for a job in my field in the areas within 50 miles of my home and have put out over 40 resumes. I continue to not be hired even after 2nd and 3rd interviews and find that some green kid with no experience, but a piece of paper gets the job. Then find out they can’t do the job and they are advertising again! How do I impress my experience on employers who are so tunnel visioned? How can I impress upon them that not only do I know what they teach in college, but everything they don’t teach in college. I’ve been in the trenches! I know what I am doing. I need some good solid feedback from those of you who do the hiring. Perhaps maybe even this will open your eyes to experience if you previously have only accepted people with fresh college degrees.
I’m 38 and changing careers right now is proving very difficult. My occupation has defined my personality and I have even applied for jobs that are different with the result of them telling me I should be in marketing! Again…I don’t get the job!!!!!!!!!!!

Victor – Actually, the job descriptions say no telemarketing, B2B, etc. That’s what I thought at first too.

When should I make a follow up phone call after e-mailing a resume?

I prefer to e-mail my resume to potential employers. I am always sure to include an appropriate cover letter. When I have the phone number of the contact as well, I like to make a follow up call. Should I call immediately after sending and introduce myself, then let the employer know that I sent my resume? If not, how long should I wait? I do not want to annoy anyone, but I live in a very tough job market (Michigan) and I need to stand out.

Does anyone know how I can find the company’s that sell products on e-bay so I can apply for a job with them?

Major in Accounting or Business Admin?

My university offers two business majors. Either a B.S. in Accounting, or a B.S. in Business Administration with any concentration (i.e. marketing, finance, etc.)

Is a B.S. in Accounting with an additional concentration in Finance a better choice than a B.S. in Business Admin? It just seems like Business Admin degrees are a dime a dozen these days.

Just so you know, I plan on getting an entry level job as a Financial Analyst.

What is a minor degree you would suggest for someone who wants to major in finance?
